Description

In his contribution Wilfried Wangs pleads for an architecture that can be experienced directly and that speaks for itself. Michael Zinganel delivers a new contribution from his research focus “Architecture and Crime”, which was negotiated in the context of the Sunday guided tour “Crime Scene Vienna” and the first Az W theme evening (Wednesdays 30) with the help of pertinent hints from the numerous audience members. Susanne Thalmaier reports on Raimund Abraham’s Austrian Cultural Forum New York, which opened in April 2002 – another model case for the role of the media and the public in the realization of large-scale architectural projects, as already sought in the AzW book “Larger Opponents” and presented in the chronology of the construction history of the Vienna Museum Quarter (hintergrund 11). As part of the opening program of the Austrian Cultural Forum, the exhibition “TransModernity”, designed by the Architekturzentrum Wien and featuring the architects henke + schreieck, Jabornegg & Palffy and Riegler Riewe, is currently running in New York.

In the columns section, Franz E. Kneissl starts with the Moba series (see also hintergrund 12, which featured excerpts from his architectural novel Eine Ratte namens Apfel). Johannes Porsch has delivered a fine contribution, an excerpt from his Twin Tower Series. Gabriele Kaiser was inspired by Georges Perec for the preparation of her work on Architektur Archiv Austria. Furthermore, there is a small selection from Wolfgang Thaler’s photo series “Mep’Yuk”.
