Lois Hechenblaikner is a photographer who grew up in the Tyrolean Alpbachtal valley. He has been engaging with the tourism-led transformation of his home. His images from Ischgl, among others, were widely publicised during the Covid years.
Hechenblaikner gives a guided tour of the exhibition ‘Toourism’ in a conversation with an Az W guide, while referencing his archive of photographs of contemporary Alpine tourism: an expansive, romantic rural Alpine setting for an après-ski culture that has distorted tradition beyond recognition while also leaving scars in the landscape. It is time to think about a new kind of tourism.
