Alvar Aalto (1898-1976): Furniture
The history of “bentwood furniture” is primarily associated with the name Thonet in Vienna. Alvar Aalto continues in the same tradition with his curvaceous standard pieces of furniture out of laminate and plywood elements designed for industrial mass production.
On sundays the curator Eva B. Ottillinger gives guided tours through the Kossdorff Collection: fifty selected pieces, modern masterpieces supplemented by examples of plywood furniture by Marcel Breuer, Gerald Summers and Charles Eames.
