“Experiment 70” is the subtitle for the spectacular sphere kitchen Luigi Colani designed in 1969/1970. Designers Colani and Beltzig broke up traditional expectations of living space with new materials and new types of furniture, such as multipurpose and built-in features. A new approach towards designing children’s furniture is also visible.

The juxtaposition of the visionary and the practical/tactile lies at the center of the design exhibition at the Hofmobilendepot (Imperial Furniture Collection). The subsequent tour of select Viennese playgrounds and their equipment designed by Günter Beltzig will explore a similar theme. Gurgling fountains, confounding mazes and astounding kaleidoscope effects will entice children of all ages to play.
