The Outer Ring Road Is Several Outer Ring Roads and A Central Library
The brick viaduct on the western section of the former Stadtbahn local railway’s outer ring road is dominated by Otto Wagner’s floating Jugendstil station buildings. Extensions and conversions of all kinds cannot ruin its balance. ‘Urban-Wien Gürtel Plus’ (urban Vienna outer ring road plus) is helping the old arches supporting the line to shine in a new light.
The new Vienna central library rises stretched between the Burggasse station and the canopy roof of Urban-Loritz-Platz. Large-scale open-air stairs absorbs the main entrance to the library and the Underground station on two levels and leads to the café on the roof terrace.A think-tank with the impetus of acceleration.
The Gaudenzdorfer node, caesura between the west and south Gürtels, is a raw place! On the four district borders, Wagner’s Wiental crossing, the magistrate’s urban wilderness and Mariahilf central fire-station had resisted all attempts at urban planning until now.
