The capital of Lower Austria developed an ambitious programme for its bid to become the Capital of Culture and designed to yield long-term benefits. While St. Pölten was not awarded the title of Capital of Culture, the flagship projects are still being implemented.

The KinderKunstLabor provides the city with a contemporary exhibition centre and an architectural bridge between the old town and the government district. The Promenadenring will be transformed/restored, from a traffic zone into a green recreational space. The Art Nouveau building of the former synagogue has been renovated and will play a lively role in the cultural life of the city in future. The Tangente festival centre in the Löwinnenhof* is a collaboratively designed meeting place and workshop for art, architecture and urbanism.
