Opportunities for the activation of vacant space in Vienna

A series of three events held at WEST, Alte WU, with one evening dedicated to vacant space in residential buildings, one to vacant space in ground floor zones, and one to vacant space in commercial premises. The aim of this cross-institutional cooperation is to initiate a broad political discussion.
The reactivation of vacant buildings is making a significant contribution to climate protection as well as to social and environmental sustainability. Activating vacant buildings provides leverage for affordable housing and making public spaces more attractive while creating spaces for (socio-)cultural or small commercial use. In addition to panel discussions with experts from the realm of politics, administration and planning, international case studies highlight the potential of utilising vacant property.
