Kiesler-Lecture: Junya Ishigami
The Japanese architect Junya Ishigami will be visiting Vienna on the occasion of the 13th Austrian Frederick Kiesler Prize for Architecture and Art.
Ishigami’s poetic-sculptural designs transcend traditional genres and inspire with their surreal beauty. His work, which seems to break with the rules and constraints of architecture, was quickly recognized for its originality and awarded numerous prizes.
The Kiesler Prize, endowed with 55,000 euros, is awarded every two years alternately by the Republic of Austria and the City of Vienna for “outstanding achievements in the field of architecture and the arts that correspond to Frederick Kiesler’s innovative views and his theory of ‘correlated arts'”. Previous winners include Frank Gehry, Olafur Eliasson, Toyo Ito, Heimo Zobernig and Yona Friedman.
