GO EAST
[Vienna meets Sarajevo]
Presentation of the project / panel discussion
followed by the opening of the Architecture Coffee House in the F3
A student exchange scheme has been running between Vienna University of Technology and the Sarajevo Architecture Faculty for a few months now. The aim of the project is to motivate students of both cities to indulge in a dialogue and produce work that goes beyond the national borders. A group of students from Vienna has compiled a guide to the architecture of Sarajevo with a focus on the project’s perspective of ‘Wohnbauten Und Wohnkulturmodelle’ (lit. = Housing Developments and Models for a Culture of the Home). In addition, working in mixed teams (each comprised of one student from Vienna and one from Sarajevo) new housing concepts for a war-damaged Sarajevo have been developed for a specific existing 6000 square metre site, concepts that aim to do justice to high demands in terms of the architecture, as urban development and in social terms.
In the form of a specially installed Architecture Coffee Shop as a symbol of the rapport between the different cultural spheres, the projects that have been produced by the student exchange are being presented in newspaper format. The coffee shop also provides an opportunity to relax on a pneumatic landscape of cushions inspired by traditional carpet patterns, to discuss (architecture), to gather information on both cities, and to find the latest information on the continually growing programme of the GO EAST [Vienna meets Sarajevo] project. This touring installation was shown at the Forum Alpach in August, is scheduled to be shown at the Architekturzentrum Wien in September and is going on to mediate between the cultures in Sarajevo from October.
