From Agram to Zagreb

Urban development of the Gründerzeit. A sequence of parks with “Das Grüne Hufeisen”(the green horseshoe) in the centre are the framework for representative buildings such as the theatre, the University library and the art pavilion.
Objects in the town centre: Behrens, Bastl, Denzler, Ehrlich, Kovacic, Lubynski, Ulrich.
Tour through the apartment by Viktor Kovacic, the stock exchange and residential buildings by Drago Ibler.
Walk to the two historical centres of the town.
Sight-seeing tour.

In Zagreb the paths of modern age can be traced back to Loos, Poelzig and Corbusier. Their pupils and co-workers had a forming influence on the townscape during the first part of the century. In the twenties a lot of buildings tending towards monumentality were built. In 1928 the break through of radical modernism was initiated by the Hoffmann pupil Antun Ullrich with the “Uskok” rowing club presenting clear cubist forms and a functional organisation of space and therefore becoming an icon of modern movement. The vivid and cosmopolitan architecture of the “Zagreb circle” in the thirties was turned into reality by hundreds of high-quality villas, residential and public buildings.
