Cold Beds, Hot Money — between touristification and emigration
Chalet villages, second homes, holiday homes as an investment: the pressure to exploit rural regions is increasing and promises considerable returns. But who can still afford to live there, and what happens to historically established village structures?
Lakeside holiday properties or properties in the mountains are extremely popular and are driving up land prices, making affordable housing almost impossible in many places. What are the consequences this is having on communities, local agriculture and the social fabric? Who benefits and who doesn’t, and how are these conflicts being dealt with on a local level? With its usual concision, the Talk Show discusses the impact of the commercialisation of idyllic rural life on localities and on communities.
