THE EXHIBITION
‘Ich wohne, bis ich 100 bin. Red Vienna, Grey Society’ engages playfully with the findings of a two-year research project by the ETH Wohnforum in Zurich on housing for the elderly, and is supplemented by the Vienna section of the exhibition ‘Red Vienna, Grey Society’. The key aim of the show is to inform visitors about alternative forms of accommodation for the elderly that challenge conventional ideas or clichés — old people are increasingly prepared to move home again and to try something new in their twilight years. The growing numbers of elderly people is presenting many towns and cities today with completely new challenges. This is particularly true in the housing sector: how to live in old age is something that effects everybody — however the expectations concerned are as heterogeneous as the elderly themselves are as a group.
