At the Az W: aspern Vienna’s Urban Lakeside

Over the next few years, approx. 8,500 flats for about 20,000 residents will be built in Vienna’s Urban Lakeside. Right from the beginning, the planning process for one of Europe’s biggest urban expansion projects took account of “smart future” issues, such as energy efficiency, urban space planning and mobility, but also social aspects and housing affordability. These considerations and the initiation of participatory processes on a broad basis are to ensure that the Urban Lakeside will be experienced and perceived as a vibrant place and functioning urban quarter. This spring will see the commencement of construction work for the first housing projects, which will be ready for their new tenants as early as in 2014.

With this exhibition of projects resulting from the developers’ competition and the housing initiative, we invite you to a journey into the near future of housing. A comprehensive guide based on three different tours will explain the specific qualities of the future urban quarter. aspern Vienna’s Urban Lakeside offers visitors a permanent exhibition with a full range of information about the project itself, guided tours and a virtual walk through the city of the future.
