The Birth of a Town
Aspern or ‘Die Seestadt Wiens’ (Vienna Laketown) is the largest urban expansion project in Vienna — a former airfield with an area of 240 hectares, i.e. the combined size of the 7th and 8th Districts of the city. The development zone in the north-east represents a new town with its mix of uses comprising commerce, jobs, recreation and private life. What marks the founding of a town in the 3rd millennium? In the face of this mega-project, the series of events ‘aspern Az W’ is intended to convey the idea of the ‘citylab’, and promote broad communication between experts and an interested public in a context of urban planning for the future.
The new series of events ‘aspern Az W’ is held in cooperation with the Wien 3420 Aspern Development AG and the Az W.
