Archikids: Where do architecture models come from?

How do plans become Models? What is a 1:200 or 1:500 scale model, and what is the difference between an urban planning model and a working model? What are operational models? And how is a model workshop put together? Architecture models can be made out of wood, polystyrene foam, Styrodur, plastics or sometimes even of plaster. But why do we need architecture models? The model maker Thomas Gürtler gives us insight into his work, then we build our own simple model of the MQ and simulate the movement of the sun on the building and the shadows it casts.
