Age of Platform Urbanism
Opening event for Platform Austria – Venice Architecture Biennale 2020
Whether for urban life or urban infrastructure, platforms have become a dominant force in recent years.
Douglas Spencer, author of The Architecture of Neoliberalism, talks to Bernadette Krejs (TU Wien) about the phenomenon of Platform Urbanism, at the opening event for Platform Austria — curated by Peter Mörtenböck and Helge Mooshammer (Centre for Global Architecture), the Austrian Pavilion’s contribution to the 2020 Archicture Biennial in Venice.
The programme for Platform Austria is based on the conclusion drawn by both curators, that the participation of as many local residents as possible is the decisive resource for the success of any platform (business).
Accordingly, people should claim their right to a broadly based discussion of their wishes and needs in this new form of production for the urban envionment. The debate on The Age of Platform Urbanism provides the introduction!
