The restructuring of the grounds around the former Südbahnhof (Heinrich Hrdlička 1956), demolished in 2009, has allowed for the large-scale development of a new city district that has radically altered the face of Vienna around the Vienna Central Station. While the buildings are still rising at the Neues Landgut project, everyday life is already bustling behind Südtiroler Platz: a new train station, a residential and working quarter, a park, a museum, architecturally examplory company premises and new railway crossings provide an opportunity to discuss the challenges of developing a new city district.
