Panel Discussion
Urban Planning – Visions and Realities
City Dialogue at the Az W
The Architecture Year 2005 is drawing to a close, making it an appropriate time to look back and see which of the visions and ideas born over the past decade could actually be realised. This City Dialogue addresses the constraints urban planning is subjected to and whether politicians and local administrative bodies are providing the suitable instruments with which to regulate the city.
The Panel
Thomas Jakoubek, WED AG
Arnold Klotz, Planning Manager for the City of Vienna
Christian Kühn, TU Wien, Architecture Critic
Rudi Schicker, Executive Councillor for Urban Development and Traffic
Kunibert Wachten, RWTH Aachen, Fakultät für Architektur
Moderated by: Thomas Rottenberg, Journalist
The Viennese situation is to be examined along with, for example, the recently finalised urban development plan (STEP 05), as well as looking at the give and take between the visions and realities in the cities of Berlin and Munich.
The panel includes Executive Councillor for Planning Rudi Schicker as well as the responsible planners for the cities of Berlin and Munich (invited), Arnold Klotz, Planning Manager for the City of Vienna, and further experts in the field, such as Christian Kühn.
After the panel discussion we invite you to join us for a glass of wine with Professor Klotz, who is retiring as Planning Manager for the City of Vienna and will be dedicating his time to new academic challenges in the future.
