Panel Discussion
At the Az W: Focussing on People
A Panel Discussion by the Österreichische Gesellschaft für Kulturpolitik
Housing policy is far more than just about building new homes. Accordingly, the Wiener Wohnbauförderung ensures that there is a high quality range of affordable homes available while also representing a major proactive force in the promotion and realisation of innovative architecture. World famous architects have worked on projects in Vienna completed with the aid of grants from the City of Vienna. But not just star architects, talented young newcomers are also being provided with opportunities.
The aim of the new city council is therefore to promote architecture that makes economic and environmental sense, securing homes that meet modern aesthetic demands while doing justice to the requirements of their future occupants. In a phrase: architecture for people. As Michael Ludwig pointed out, working in Vienna presents an exciting challenge and an attractive prospect for architects from Austria and abroad.
The panel:
Michael Ludwig, Stadtrat für Wohnen, Wohnbau und Stadterneuerung (Executive Councillor for housing, housing development and urban renewal)
Dietmar Steiner, Director of the Architekturzentrum Wien
Ute Woltron, Architecture correspondent
