Panel Discussion
The Bittersweet Life of an Architect?
An empirical study leads behind the scenes in the life of an architect
Architects have always grumbled, although to date there have never been any exact figures on their actual living and working conditions. Mere assertions, star myths and imprecise data form the basis for decisions on the political, economic and social parameters governing the work of architecture producers. The resulting negative affects of political, logistical and fiscal measures, as well as in the way that culture is promoted are felt throughout the sector.
The first empirical study to have been carried out on the architecture profession (Berufsfeld Architektur 1.0), on the actual conditions for Austrian architects, forms the basis for a discussion. Experts from the creative industry, freelance professions, job market and interest groups have packaged the material into a study showing the full context of the bittersweet life in the Austrian architecture sector.
