One Room for Five
Twenty Architectural Years
In 1995 architects Dieter Henke, Marta Schreieck, Rüdiger Lainer, Walter Stelzhammer and Albert Wimmer presented their approach to architecture in the exhibition “One Room for Five”. In 2015 an exhibition once again examines their work and its impact and puts a number of questions. The context of Vienna and the conditions of production in a growing city with restricted resources provide the common denominator. How strongly is architectural work shaped by social, economic and political circumstances and how significant is the role played by chance? The results and the positions of the five architects are very different, as are the ways they have arrived at these stances.
“One Room for Five. Twenty Architectural Years” takes a look behind the scenes and allows insights into the methods of working and the reference systems of the architects. The focus is on the creative process through which the projects are developed. How do the architects bring their favourite themes and approaches from one project to the next and refine them? What kind of roundabout paths and sidestepping does this involve?
The exhibition is curated and designed by Arquitectos (Heidi Pretterhofer and Dieter Spath).
